Written on The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation airmail letter from Johore Bahru
Dear Mum and Dad,
Many thanks for your letter. The children arrived safely having had a good flight. Adrienne spent most of her time on the flight deck and served coffee to the Captain. Their exam results were good and they have all grown up. Elisabeth appears to have improved again and can do more for herself. They have all been very busy and Margo is on the go non stop. Caroline seems to have grown up a lot - confident and released. The weather is hot and sunny and rain has stopped which is a great help. The Sultan normally travels with outriders and we did not have anything extra for the riots as there are none here. Margo wrote to Alan and Di on Jeffery's arrival and we will be sending something at the Christening. Quite clever to have a girl and a boy. It is not good new about Hilgers though and must be a worry - hope the house move is made soon. Am still very busy myself. Just as I though we would be back to normal we are starting a new system which is time consuming and mostly a waster. However, they are giving me another Regional Officer at the end of the year which may help out with leave relief once he is trained. Am taking the girls to a factory on Monday and they have already been swimming and shopping. Have bought some TEBRAU RUBBER at 2/9 - they are doing well at present rubber price and the rumour is they may sell up. I will not know whether to get out at 3/6 or hold on.
