2nd June 1969

Written on Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation air letter from Johore Bahru Malaysia

Dear Mum and Dad,

Johore continues to be trouble free and although one does not need or hear what is actually happening elsewhere things appear to be improving.  Singapore has had some minor incident but this is being handled without fuss.  We were out to dinner and afterwards at a night spot on Saturday and did not see anything unusual.  Mrs Aylett has to written to say Mr Aylett is home and looking much better.  She is to have an operation to improve the arthritic condition of the hips which has been getting worse and it seems there may be a good chance of success.  The girls continue to write happily and Adrienne's school work is better - at least for the moment.  We are coming up to another half year.  They soon pass and appear to go faster and faster.  Thank you for the book that Margo brought out - it was a good one.  I have not started on Henry's Wavell yet.  Saving it for a time I lack reading material.  Will get it back to him eventually.  Read a write up on CRODA Internation in the Economist today which made them sound interesting.  A chemical complex.  The Chartered Bank our rivals in the east have started a big merger with Standard Bank of S.A.  I wonder if we will link up with anyone.  We often make similar moves of this nature.  Hope Alan is making progress with his house and selling the flat, it will be quite an event to get that problem out of the way.

Cheerio fo now and all our love

Peter and Margo.
